No goats but so many peaks!

While compiling our summer bucket list we found ourselves quickly adding fire lookout after fire lookout, something about them is so intriguing and mysterious, so naturally we couldn't wait to get started, and jumped right in as soon as the snow cleared. First on that list was the Goats Peak fire lookout off highway 33 near Beaverdell. This one was a fairly mysterious one as there is very little information about it online, to be honest we weren't even sure it existed as the last relevant blog post we could find about it was from 2014, so our expectations were low, but hopes were high! We loaded up our maps and gear and hit the road (after a quick but amazing stop for pulled pork at hammers house of hog in oliver!) headed southeast to Rock Creek and then heading north on highway 33 towards Beaverdell. Shortly before the turn off to Beaverdell we exited the highway and turned onto the Boyer forest service road, at this point we were expecting a super rugged forest road but we actually found out fairly quickly it is quite well maintaned and could be driven in any vehicle with decent clearance and a light gas pedal.

We followed this road climbing steadily up into the mountains until we caught a quick glimpse of a fire tower precariously perched on top of a picturesque mountainside and at that moment it was too late to turn back , we didnt come this far just to come this far, and no matter what we were going to find a way. Paying close attention to our maps we wound our way up the back of this mountain, goal in sight, and knew we were close, and then we came around the corner and saw this is in the middle of the road.

And this view to the right... At that moment we realized our drive was over and the work was about to begin.

So we started our trek up the side of this beautifully colored rock, although it was steep it was surprisingly quick and we were soon treated to a preview of the views from the top. A few more corners (and a fair bit of huffing a puffing from the one of us that's in less than optimal shape, lol), and our target came into view!!

After taking some time to take in the views we obviously had to check out the inside

Its crazy to think someone would live up here alone for monthes at a time with nothing but a radio and this tool used to spot and identify the location of potential fires.

Back outside we checked out the views of our very tiny vehicle and an observation deck.

After catching our breath and taking it all in, it was time to return to the adventure wagon and head home!
